How to Choose a Cricket Bat: Willow Grades, Weight & Handle Guide

English willow vs Kashmir willow

English willow is lighter, softer and has a bigger sweet spot, so it is preferred for serious play. Kashmir willow is heavier and more durable and is usually cheaper, which makes it common for training and casual use.

Pick the right size and weight

A bat should feel balanced when you hold it in your batting stance. Heavier is not better: a bat you can swing fast and control will outperform one that is too heavy. Match bat size to the player's height and age.

Check the grain and blade

More straight grains generally indicate better quality willow, but grain count alone does not decide performance. Look for a clean blade without large cracks or knots, an even edge profile and a secure handle join.

Buying cricket bats in bulk

For retail or academy orders, request a sample bat first. Check weight consistency across the batch, the finish, the stickers or logos and the packaging. Ask the factory about customisation such as grips, covers and branding.
